The Cabanes du Breuil
Charming Hideaways Surrounded by Nature
Located midway between Sarlat and Les Eyzies, the Cabanes du Breuil are accessible via a small road winding through a forest in the Périgord Noir. Their origin remains a mystery, but it is known that they served as rural dwellings for the Benedictines of Sarlat until the mid-15th century.
Later, during the 18th and 19th centuries, they were used as artisan workshops. Since 1950, this heritage has been preserved within a family-run farm.

The cabins display a remarkable architectural unity in their shapes and construction techniques.
Built in dry stone and topped with stone-slate roofs, they have served as settings for numerous films, including Sleeping Beauty, Jacquou le Croquant, and Les Misérables. Adjacent to the Cabanes du Breuil, a stone-slate quarry invites visitors to discover the traditional dry-stone building techniques.
