Mas de Castel – Gourmet Boutique
Explore Périgord’s Local Specialties at Our Boutique
During your stay at Mas de Castel, don’t hesitate to visit our gourmet boutique. You will find a selection of local products from the Périgord.
The Périgord region is rich in gastronomy and local specialties: foie gras, truffles, Bergerac wines, strawberries, walnuts, porcini mushrooms…
Did you know that the Dordogne department also produces confections, jams, cheese, and honey?
At Mas de Castel, we offer a range of regional products from local Périgord producers so you can take home a few delicious souvenirs from your stay. You will also find creations by talented artisans, including a selection of candles, personalized travel journals, and our favorite: the famous Périgord cabins, handcrafted stone by stone by a remarkable craftsman.

PÉRIGORD FOIE GRAS
You can purchase foie gras at the Mas de Castel boutique. Bought raw, whole foie gras can then be enjoyed half-cooked, fully cooked, or simply pan-seared!
Reconstituted foie gras is also a must-try of the local gastronomy. It can be enjoyed without any cooking—simply serve it on a slice of bread, accompanied by a glass of Monbazillac wine!
There is also a Périgord Foie Gras Route, where you can meet local producers and taste products with Certified Périgord origin.
The Black Gold of Périgord: Truffles
The truffle is like oil in Texas—it’s the black gold of the region. To find it, pigs were traditionally used. Today, they are often replaced by dogs, as the truffle hides deep in the soil of the Périgord.
This very famous fungus is the rarest and most expensive (over €1,000 per kilogram for black truffles). It drives the largest trade from December to March at the region’s truffle markets.
In towns like Sarlat, Sainte-Alvère, or Thiviers, the excitement is palpable as people compete to get the prized mushroom.
There is also a Truffle Eco-Museum in Sorges, in the heart of the Périgord.

THE MONBAZILLAC
Don’t forget to take home a bottle of Monbazillac from the Mas boutique.
This sweet white wine from the Bergerac region is mainly made from Bordeaux white grape varieties: Sémillon, Sauvignon, and Muscadelle.
Monbazillac is known for its high sugar content, ranging from 45 g/L up to 85 g/L for the “noble grape” selections.
It can be enjoyed as an aperitif, with certain desserts, or—perfectly—with foie gras.
